About Cathedral of Saint Paul

The Cathedral of Saint Paul was consecrated in 1915 atop Cathedral Hill, where it dominates the downtown and aligns with the Capitol. The design, by French architect Emmanuel Masqueray, follows the beaux-arts style, with a Minnesota granite façade and a large dome covered in copper.

The interior has stained glass, mosaics and chapels dedicated to the patron saints of the immigrant groups that shaped the city, such as the Irish, Germans, French, Italians and Poles. Light entering through the dome windows illuminates the bronze baldachin above the altar.

The cathedral is at the start of Summit Avenue, which makes it easy to combine the visit with a walk among the mansions.
