About Walker Art Center and Minneapolis Sculpture Garden
The Walker Art Center is one of the United States’ leading contemporary art museums, with exhibitions of visual art, film, dance and music, housed in a dark-brick building expanded with an aluminum wing. The collection includes 20th- and 21st-century artists such as Andy Warhol, Chuck Close and Kara Walker.
Facing the museum, the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden covers about 4.5 hectares with more than 40 outdoor works. The best-known piece is Spoonbridge and Cherry, by Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen — a giant spoon with a cherry on a reflecting pool that has become a city symbol. There is also a giant blue rooster and the Cowles Conservatory, which contains a glass fish sculpture by Frank Gehry.
A pedestrian bridge links the garden to Loring Park and downtown.
