About Strasburg Railroad
The Strasburg Rail Road received its charter in 1832 and is considered the oldest short-line railroad in the United States still in operation. The line runs from Strasburg to Leaman Place, near Paradise, crossing corn and tobacco fields and farms of Amish families.
The rides use restored steam locomotives and early 20th-century wooden coaches, with options for open cars, first-class seating and a diner car. The round trip takes about 45 minutes and includes narration about the railroad and the region’s history.
The railroad maintains its own restoration shop for locomotives, which also serves other historic railways in the country. Strasburg station has shops, a small play area and themed toy trains on some dates.
Across the street is the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania, the state railroad museum, which many visitors combine on the same day.
