The city
City on a narrow island in the Gulf of Mexico, about 80 km from Houston. It was Texas’s wealthiest port until the 1900 hurricane, after which the large seaside wall, the Seawall, was built. It has the Strand historic district, Victorian houses such as the Bishop's Palace, beaches, an amusement pier and Moody Gardens park, and is a cruise port for the Caribbean.
