About Dollywood
Dollywood received its name in 1986, when Dolly Parton, who was born in the region, became a partner in a park that was already operating there. The park blends rides, music and the culture of the eastern Tennessee mountains, and is one of the most visited in the southern United States.
The park areas include wooden and steel roller coasters, such as the Thunderhead and the Lightning Rod, rides for small children, theaters with country and gospel music shows and workshops where artisans work iron, glass and wood. A museum tells the life and career of Dolly Parton.
Throughout the year the park hosts festivals: flowers and food in spring, music and illuminated pumpkins in autumn, and lights at Christmas, when it remains open into the evening.
