About Whitefish Mountain Resort
Whitefish Mountain Resort occupies Big Mountain, north of the town and Whitefish Lake. It has operated since the 1940s and has runs on slopes facing the lake and the Flathead River valley, with Glacier National Park visible on the horizon.
In winter, the mountain is often covered by rime ice from fog, which turns the upper trees into white figures locals call the snow ghosts. The runs range from beginner areas to challenging tree-lined slopes.
In summer, the gondola takes visitors to the summit, where there is a restaurant, hiking and mountain bike trails; at the base are zip lines and family activities.
