About Ford Rouge Factory Tour
The Rouge complex was, in the 1930s, the largest industrial complex in the world, where Ford transformed iron ore and coal into finished cars. It’s where Diego Rivera made preliminary studies for the murals at the Detroit Institute of Arts, and the factory remains in operation, assembling pickup trucks.
The tour begins with films about the history of the Rouge and about vehicle manufacturing. From the overlook you can see the pickup factory’s green roof, covered with plants. Then an elevated walkway passes over the final assembly line, where you can observe the teams at work when production is running.
At the end, a gallery displays historic cars assembled at the Rouge, such as the Model A and the Mustang.
