About The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza
The Sixth Floor Museum occupies the sixth floor of the former Texas School Book Depository at Dealey Plaza, downtown Dallas. From there, on November 22, 1963, Lee Harvey Oswald fired at President John F. Kennedy’s motorcade as it passed through the plaza.
The exhibition reconstructs Kennedy’s life and administration, the Dallas visit, the assassination, the investigations and the reactions across the country and the world, with photographs, films, documents and testimonies. The corner of the window from which the shots were fired has been reconstructed as it was that day, behind glass. The seventh floor hosts temporary exhibitions.
Outside, Dealey Plaza preserves the 1963 layout, with the lawn and wooden fence, and an X painted on the asphalt marks the spot where the president was struck. The Kennedy memorial by Philip Johnson is two blocks away.
