About Six Flags Over Texas

Six Flags Over Texas was the first park in the Six Flags chain, opened in 1961 in Arlington. The name refers to the six flags that have flown over Texas, and the park’s areas are themed around the state’s history, such as Mexico, Spain, France, and Old West Texas.

The park is known for its roller coasters, such as the New Texas Giant, made of wood and steel, the Titan with its big drop, and the Mr. Freeze, a high-speed launched coaster. There are spinning and drop rides, an observation tower, water attractions, and areas for small children with cartoon characters, as well as live shows.

The season runs from spring through the end of the year, with variable operating days, Halloween programming in October, and Christmas decorations at year’s end.
