About Oregon Shakespeare Festival
The Oregon Shakespeare Festival began in 1935 with performances in an old local venue and has become one of the largest repertory theater companies in the United States. It stages Shakespeare alongside classics by other authors and new works, with rotating seasons during the same period.
The theaters sit side by side downtown. The Allen Elizabethan Theatre, outdoors, is inspired by Elizabethan stages in England and operates on summer evenings. Two indoor theaters, one mid-sized and one smaller and flexible, host the other productions.
The town organizes itself around the festival during the season, drawing audiences from across the West Coast. There are cast talks and backstage tours on some days.
