About Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio
Frank Lloyd Wright built this house in 1889, at age 22, to live with his family in Oak Park, and added the studio in 1898 where he worked for about ten years. It was there that he and his team developed the Prairie style and designed dozens of houses.
The house shows the evolution of Wright’s ideas, with alterations he made over the years: the children’s playroom with a vaulted ceiling, the dining room with high‑back furniture, and the studio with an octagonal double‑height room and a balcony suspended by chains.
The foundation that cares for Wright’s works offers guided tours of the house and walking tours of the historic neighborhood, showing the houses he designed on nearby streets.
