About Betty Ford Alpine Gardens

The Betty Ford Alpine Gardens are in Ford Park, a short walk from Vail Village, at about 2,500 meters elevation, and are among the highest botanical gardens in the world. They are named for the former first lady, who spent seasons in Vail with President Gerald Ford.

The garden brings together plants from the Rocky Mountains and other mountain ranges worldwide, in rock beds, slopes and waterfalls. There is a meditation garden, an area with medicinal plants and a small stone chapel. The education center has exhibits on alpine flora and climate change in the mountains.

Flowers are usually at their peak from late June through August.
