About Main Street of Breckenridge
Breckenridge’s downtown is one of the largest historic districts in Colorado. Along Main Street and the cross streets there are more than 200 late-19th-century buildings, wooden houses and storefronts painted in the style of the town’s gold- and silver-mining era.
The town was founded in 1859, during Colorado’s gold rush. Today the old buildings house shops, galleries and restaurants, and the Heritage Alliance, the local historical society, maintains museums and historic houses open to visitors, as well as guided walks around town and tours to old mines in the surrounding area.
In winter, the main street is decorated with lights and serves as a setting for town events.
