About Kozjak Waterfall
The Kozjak stream descends the slopes of Krn and, before reaching the Soča, passes through six waterfalls. The best known is Veliki Kozjak, with a 15-meter drop, which falls into a chamber carved into the rock by the water itself, open on only one side, over a pool of dark green water. Light enters through the opening and changes throughout the day.
The path begins at Napoleon Bridge, over the Soča, just north of Kobarid. On the far side of the river, a flat trail runs along the bank to the 1895 stone bridge at the mouth of the Kozjak and enters the stream valley. There you find the first fall, Mali Kozjak, 8 meters high. A wooden walkway fixed to the rock ends at a small viewing platform facing the main waterfall.
Along the way there are traces of the First World War, such as caves used by soldiers, and the trail is part of the Kobarid Historical Trail. It is also possible to return via a suspension bridge over the Soča.
In the season, from April to October, a maintenance fee is charged at the entrance to the final section of the trail. The pool is not used for bathing.
