About Boka Waterfall
Boka springs from a karst source on the slope of the Kanin massif, southwest of Bovec, and falls over the rock face in two stages: the upper at 106 meters and the lower at about 30 meters, roughly 18 meters wide. It is one of Slovenia’s highest and most voluminous waterfalls.
The water comes from snowmelt and rain on the limestone plateau of Kanin via underground channels. Because of this, the flow varies greatly over the year: it is usually higher in spring and after heavy rains, and decreases at the end of summer. Below the fall the Boka stream runs less than 1 km to the Soča and is one of the country’s shortest waterways.
The waterfall can be seen from the road between Bovec and Žaga, near the bridge over the Boka stream. From there, a marked trail climbs in 15–20 minutes to a viewpoint with a frontal view of the main drop. A longer, steeper trail leads up toward the spring for those who are fit.
The section of the Soča in front of the Boka is one of the starting points for rafting trips in the valley.
