About Rinka Falls
Rinka waterfall lies at the end of the Logar Valley, at about 1,100 meters altitude, and is one of the largest free‑fall drops in Slovenia, at roughly 90 meters. Water descends from an amphitheatre‑shaped cliff of reddish conglomerate rock and is considered the source of the Savinja River, fed by karst springs above the cliff.
From the parking area at the end of the valley road, a stone path climbs through the beech forest and reaches the base of the waterfall in 10 to 15 minutes. Slightly above, a stairway leads to Orlovo gnezdo, the eagle’s nest, a small shelter with a frontal view of the fall. Higher up, the trail continues to the Okrešelj glacial cirque and the Frischauf hut.
The waterfall usually has more water in spring with the snowmelt and after heavy rains; by late summer the flow decreases. In winter the fall can freeze and attracts ice climbers. The name Rinka is shared with several peaks of the Kamnik–Savinja Alps that rise above the valley.
