About Koper Regional Museum
The Koper Regional Museum (Pokrajinski muzej Koper) is housed in the Belgramoni Tacco Palace, an early 17th-century palace on Kidričeva Street, a few minutes from Tito Square. The entrance gate bears the coat of arms of podestà Bernardo Diedo, featuring the oldest known representation of Koper’s arms, dated 1432.
The historical exhibition covers Slovenian Istria from prehistory, with the castellieri (Bronze Age fortified settlements), through the Roman period—when the city was called Aegida and later Justinopolis—and the long Venetian era. There are stone sculptures, paintings, maps, coins, and a collection of weapons.
The museum also keeps an ethnological collection in another central building about rural and coastal life in Istria, and it organizes temporary exhibitions.
In summer, the palace garden hosts concerts and a music festival.
