The mountain south of Lake Bohinj, with a cable car that climbs from Ukanc to 1,535 meters. From the top you can see the lake and the Triglav; in winter it is a ski area, and in summer a starting point for trails.

About Vogel Ski Center
Vogel is a 1,922-meter mountain in the range that closes the Bohinj valley to the south. A cable car, renewed in 2001, rises from near Ukanc at the western tip of the lake to the Rjava skala station at 1,535 meters, overcoming almost a thousand meters of vertical gain in a few minutes.
From the terrace of the upper station, the view covers the whole lake down below and, on the other side of the valley, the Triglav massif. On clear days other ranges of the Julian Alps also appear. The cable car runs year-round, with pauses for maintenance.
From December to March, Vogel is generally a ski area with slopes above the lake. From spring to autumn, trails depart from the upper station to the high pastures, such as planina Zadnji Vogel, and to the summit of Vogel or Šija, for those with preparation and equipment.
Weather changes quickly on the mountain: even in summer the heights can have cold wind and fog while the lake is sunny.

Best time
On clear days in the morning, when Triglav is often cloud-free. In winter, from December to March, to ski. Check the forecast and the webcams at the top before you go up.
How to get there
The lower station is near Ukanc at the western tip of the lake, with parking. Buses from Ribčev Laz and Bohinjska Bistrica stop in Ukanc.
Tip
Bring a warm layer even in summer. If you plan to hike from the upper station, start early, follow marked trails and don’t go alone.
