About Linhart Square

Linhartov trg is the long street-square of Radovljica’s old town, on a plateau that ends in a cliff over the Sava valley. Radovljica appears in documents from 1296 and received market rights in 1333. The center preserves merchant houses from the 16th to 18th centuries, some with painted facades and stone portals.

At the end of the square stands St. Peter’s Church, Gothic, with an ornate door and a rib-vaulted interior. The square still preserves sections of the moat and the walls that once protected the town, and from several points you can see the border mountains and the valley below.

The Radovljica manor (Radovljiška graščina), a Baroque palace in the middle of the square, houses the municipal museum, including the beekeeping museum and a gallery. The square is named after Anton Tomaž Linhart, a playwright and historian born in the town in the 18th century.

Radovljica has a tradition of decorated gingerbread (lect), molded into hearts and painted, and hosts events throughout the year on the square. The center is small and can be seen in less than an hour.
