What to expect from Barretos.

Northern city in the state of São Paulo, founded in the 19th century and long connected to cattle trade. It is known for its cowboy (peão) culture and for the Parque do Peão, with the arena designed by Oscar Niemeyer, where the Barretos Cowboy Festival (Festa do Peão de Boiadeiro de Barretos) takes place in August.

Parque do Peão de Barretos

Complex where the Cowboy Festival has taken place since 1985, with the horseshoe-shaped rodeo arena designed by Oscar Niemeyer and the Memorial do Peão de Boiadeiro, which tells the story of the festival and of Os Independentes.

Cathedral

Cathedral of the Divine Holy Spirit

Main church of Barretos, in the city center, dedicated to the city’s patron saint, on the site linked to the town’s founding: the founders donated land to the Divine Holy Spirit for the first chapel. It has stained glass windows and decorated arches.
