About Parque do Peão de Barretos

The Parque do Peão was inaugurated in 1985 to host the Barretos Cowboy Festival, which had previously been held in other locations around the city. It is a large complex with an arena, stages, exhibition areas and camping grounds, located a few kilometers from downtown.

The most famous feature is the rodeo stadium, designed by Oscar Niemeyer in the shape of a horseshoe, with stands for tens of thousands of people. Outside the festival, the empty arena allows visitors to appreciate the form of the project.

The park houses the Memorial do Peão de Boiadeiro, which gathers the history of the festival since its first edition in 1956 and the trajectory of Os Independentes, the association that organizes it. There are also monuments related to cowboy culture, such as the statue of the bull Bandido.

The park hosts other events and fairs throughout the year, and a visit helps to understand the scale of the August festival.
