About Flowerpot Island
Flowerpot Island is about 6 km from Tobermory, in Fathom Five National Marine Park. It’s known for the two limestone columns, called flowerpots, that rise at the water’s edge. Wave erosion wore away the base of the rocks faster than the tops, where small trees grow, giving the columns their pot-like shape.
A roughly 3 km trail circles part of the island, passing the two columns, a cave in the upper escarpment and the lighthouse station, with the restored keeper’s house. The path includes rocky sections and short climbs.
The island is accessible only by boat. boat tours depart Tobermory from May to October, and many pass first over the shipwrecks in Big Tub Harbour, visible through glass-bottom boats.
