About The Grotto

The Grotto is on the Georgian Bay shore in Bruce Peninsula National Park, about 15 km from Tobermory. It is a cave carved by waves at the base of the Niagara Escarpment’s limestone cliffs. A submerged passage connects the cave to the lake, and sunlight enters through it, turning the water an intense blue.

To get there you walk about 1 km from the parking lot to Indian Head cove and then along the coastal rocks. You descend into the cave through an opening in the rocks, taking care. Nearby are the Indian Head natural arch and the rock platforms where many visitors swim in the cold, clear water.

The site is one of Ontario’s most visited. To manage crowds, parking operates on a timed reservation basis in four‑hour blocks from May through October.
