About Agawa Canyon Tour Train

The Agawa Canyon train departs downtown Sault Ste. Marie and climbs north for about 180 km, crossing the Canadian Shield. The route passes through maple and pine forests, lakes, rivers and a high bridge over the Montreal River.

The train descends to the bottom of Agawa Canyon, a narrow valley with granite walls carved by the Agawa River. There, passengers have about 2 hours to walk to Bridal Veil and Black Beaver waterfalls and climb a staircase of about 300 steps to the lookout over the canyon and the railway. Painter Lawren Harris and other Group of Seven artists painted the region in the 1910s and 1920s.

The trip takes the whole day, round trip. Screens in the cars show the locomotive camera and tell the story of the landscape. The season usually runs from early August to mid-October, and fall color dates sell out first.
