About Sandbanks Provincial Park
Sandbanks Provincial Park is on the west shore of Prince Edward County, about 15 km from Picton. Winds and currents on Lake Ontario have deposited sand over thousands of years to form bars that close bays and lagoons, covered by dunes up to about 25 meters high.
The park has three main beaches. Outlet Beach, about 2 km long, has shallow, calm water for many metres, good for children. Sandbanks Beach, facing the open lake, has waves and coarser sand. Dunes Beach lies at the foot of the larger dunes, which can be climbed via marked paths.
Trails cross the dunes, forests and marshes of the park, which shelter rare plants and migratory birds in spring and fall.
