About Point Prim Lighthouse
Point Prim Lighthouse stands on the tip of a narrow peninsula on the island's south coast, surrounded by farmland and low red sandstone cliffs. Built in 1845, it is Prince Edward Island's oldest lighthouse and one of the few round brick lighthouses in Canada, clad in painted white wood.
In season, a local association opens the lighthouse for guided visits and allows visitors to climb to the lantern room, which offers views of the Northumberland Strait and the entrance to Hillsborough Bay. There are short trails along the cliff edge and a small beach at low tide.
The road to the point passes farms and scattered houses. The lighthouse is open only in summer; check current dates and the schedule.
