About Confederation Centre of the Arts
The Confederation Centre of the Arts was opened in 1964, on the centenary of the Charlottetown conference, as a national memorial to Canada’s founders. The modernist sandstone building occupies a whole block next to Province House, the seat of the provincial parliament.
The centre houses an art gallery with holdings by Canadian artists, theatres and concert spaces. In summer, the Charlottetown festival presents musicals on the main stage, including the musical adaptation of Anne of Green Gables, performed there for decades.
The square around the centre has benches, cafés and sculptures, and outdoor performances are common on festival days. Check the season schedule and ticketing; the gallery has its own entry rules.
