About Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic
The Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic occupies the old red sheds of a fishing company on Lunenburg harbour. It is part of Nova Scotia’s museum network and tells the story of North Atlantic fishing, from salted cod to the large schooners.
Exhibitions cover the offshore fishing banks, the boats and techniques, and the lives of fishermen and their families. There is an aquarium with local fish, a workshop where wooden boats are built and repaired, and a room about the schooner Bluenose, built in Lunenburg in 1921 and a racing champion.
Boats are moored at the museum quay and can usually be visited inside in the summer. The museum operates in the summer and fall season; check months and the current schedule before you go.
