About Maritime Museum of the Atlantic
The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic is on the harbour boardwalk in an old ship supply warehouse. It is Canada’s oldest maritime museum and tells the story of Nova Scotia’s relationship with the sea: fishing boats, sailing ships, lighthouses and port life.
Two exhibits attract most visitors. The Titanic exhibit displays wooden items recovered from the sea after the 1912 sinking, including a deck chair, and explains Halifax’s role in recovering bodies. The Halifax Explosion exhibit recounts the collision of two ships in the harbour in 1917, which destroyed part of the city and is one of the largest accidental explosions in history.
Moored at the adjacent pier is the CSS Acadia, a 1913 hydrographic ship that can be visited in summer. Check operating hours before you go.
