About Musée de la Gaspésie
The Gaspésie Museum sits on a promontory overlooking Gaspé Bay, near the spot believed to be where Jacques Cartier landed in 1534. It is the regional museum for the peninsula and tells the story of Gaspésie: the Mi'gmaq people, the arrival of Europeans, fishing, seafaring and life in the coastal villages.
The exhibitions use objects, maps, photographs and ship models. Temporary exhibits address contemporary themes and local artists. The museum also holds archives and documents about peninsula families.
Next to it stands the Jacques Cartier monument, a group of bronze stelae with reliefs depicting the 1534 voyage and the encounter with the peoples who lived in the region. Check opening days and the current schedule.
