About Ter Heide Domain
The Ter Heide estate, which locals call De Plas, emerged in 1975 when sand extraction for the E314 motorway left a pit that filled with water. The site became a recreational estate of about 23 hectares, open year round.
Around the lake there are trails, leisure areas, a beach and sports spaces. Three walking routes start from the estate and cross the Demer, Dijle and Winge valleys, passing the Rotselaar windmill.
Next to the estate stands the Ter Heyden tower, a residential tower of about 30 m, surrounded by a moat, built in the mid-14th century. The tower is privately owned and cannot be visited inside, but it can be seen from the trails.
The estate is a good half-day outing from Leuven, especially in good weather.
