About Church of Saint-Sébastien
The church of Saint-Sébastien is the parish church of Stavelot, built in the 18th century near the Place Saint-Remacle. After the abbatial church was demolished following the French Revolution, part of the abbey’s treasure was moved to it.
The best-known piece is the reliquary of Saint Remaclus, the abbey’s founder: a large chest of gilded silver, enamels and relief figures from the 13th century. It is one of the most important Mosan goldsmithing works in the region between Liège and the Rhine.
The treasury also holds other reliquaries, chalices and liturgical objects connected to the history of the principality. Access to the treasury and to the reliquary may depend on specific opening times or a guided visit.
The church is a few steps from the abbey and the Place Saint-Remacle, where the Laetare processions end.
