About Malmundarium
The Malmundarium occupies the buildings of the former Benedictine abbey of Malmedy, whose history begins in the 7th century when Saint Remaclus founded the monasteries of Malmedy and Stavelot. The abbey and the town were part of the principality of Stavelot-Malmedy for more than a thousand years.
The route tells that history and the story of Malmedy, which changed countries more than once over the past two centuries. One section is devoted to the cathedral treasury, with pieces of goldsmithing and liturgical objects.
Another room covers the Cwarmê, the town’s carnival, with the costumes and masks of the traditional figures, such as the Haguètes. There are also areas about trades that marked Malmedy, like tanning and papermaking.
The building also serves as a tourist office and a starting point for exploring the town centre and the Hautes Fagnes.
