About Serbian Orthodox Church of Saint Nicholas (Szent Miklós görögkeleti templom)
The Serbian community of Baja, present in the town since the period after Ottoman rule, once maintained three churches. Two survived, and Saint Nicholas is the oldest of them.
The church was completed in 1775 with funds from the Serbs living in Baja. Its current form, in late Baroque, dates from a 1779 remodel. The tower stands out among the low buildings of the neighborhood and is visible in views of the town from the Sugovica.
The interior preserves the iconostasis and the furniture from the late 18th century, also in late Baroque. As in other Orthodox churches, the wall of icons separates the nave from the sanctuary.
The church remains in use by the Orthodox community and opens for visits on some days of the week. Outside those hours, it is possible to see the exterior and the tower from the neighboring streets.
