About István Nagy Gallery (Nagy István Képtár)

The gallery occupies the former Vojnich manor, a single-story classical building constructed around 1820. After World War II, the house housed the artists’ colony founded by painter Rudnay Gyula, which gathered young painters in Baja for decades. Since 1985 it has operated as a gallery of the Türr István Museum.

The core of the collection is the work of Nagy István (1873–1937), a painter born in Transylvania who settled in Baja late in life. After his death, the city museum organized a memorial exhibition and acquired a set of his works, which became the gallery’s holdings.

The gallery also preserves the legacy of sculptor Telcs Ede and the Oltványi collection, a set of works by 20th-century Hungarian painters. In front of the building there is a bust of Nagy István by sculptor Varga Imre.

The gallery hosts temporary exhibitions by regional artists, linked to the tradition of the Baja colony.
