About Liznjek House (Liznjekova domačija)
Liznjekova domačija is an 18th-century farmhouse in Kranjska Gora’s old town, on Borovška cesta, the village’s former main street. The Liznjek family were the village’s wealthiest residents, owning 84 hectares, and the house, with the date 1781 carved on a beam, shows how a prosperous peasant family of the Upper Sava valley lived in the mid-19th century.
The building follows the local type: a masonry ground floor with the stable and cellar below, a wooden upper floor, a black open-hearth kitchen and rooms with hand-painted furniture, a craft that developed strongly in the region. Among the objects are a saints’ corner, a built-in cabinet for valuables, looms, carpentry tools and sledges. Opposite the courtyard stands a large barn from 1796.
The house was restored in 1983 and operates as a museum, managed by the Upper Sava regional museum based in Jesenice. In the basement an exhibition presents Josip Vandot, author of the Kekec children’s books, a very well-known character in Slovenia. The visit is short and pairs well with a stroll through the village center.
