About Lake Jasna
Jasna Lake is about 1.5 km from the centre of Kranjska Gora, beside the road that climbs to the Vršič pass. It comprises two linked artificial lakes formed in an old gravel pit at the confluence of the Velika Pišnica and Mala Pišnica streams, at just over 800 metres altitude. Behind them rise the peaks of the Julian Alps, including Prisank and Razor.
On the northern shore, a bronze statue represents Zlatorog, the golden-horned chamois of the Slovenian Triglav legend. A short path circles the two lakes via bridges, small shingle beaches and wooden platforms, and the Pišnica bank links the lake to the village centre by shaded trails.
The stream water runs cold from the mountains, but the shallow lakes warm in summer, when the area attracts bathers. In winter the surface often freezes and the place is still frequented by walkers. The lake is also the first stop for those heading up the Vršič road.
