Levoča – Prešov Destination Levoča and Spiš Castle

How to get there

  • Letisko Poprad-Tatry (TAT) Poprad · 30 km
  • Autobusová stanica Levoča 1 km

Approximate distances. Check flights and bus, train or boat schedules before you travel.

By car via the D1 highway, about 25 km from Poprad and 90 km from Košice. Buses connect Levoča with Poprad, Spišská Nová Ves, Prešov and Spišské Podhradie; the bus station is next to the walls, a few minutes’ walk from the square.

How many days

One day for the basilica, the square, the town hall and the climb to Mariánska hora. With an extra half day you can visit the Spiš museums and walk the walls at leisure.

When to go

From May to October, when days are longer and can be combined with Spiš Castle. The first weekend of July has the Mariánska hora pilgrimage and the town is crowded. In winter the center is quiet and cold.

The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.

Do you need a car?

For the center, no: everything is walkable within the walls, and Mariánska hora has a road and a trail. A car helps if you plan to visit Spiš Castle, Žehra and Kežmarok in the same day, since buses have few departures.
