Approximate distances. Check flights and bus, train or boat schedules before you travel.
By the Tatra electric train, with a change at Starý Smokovec, or via the line that leaves Poprad and passes through Studený Potok. By car, about 15 km from Poprad.
How many days
One day for the cable cars, Skalnaté pleso and the summit of Lomnický štít, if the weather allows. Half a day extra for the TANAP Museum and the botanical garden.
When to go
June to September, for the cable cars with a greater chance of clear skies and the trails around Skalnaté pleso. The cable car also operates in winter, when there is skiing from December to March or April. Days with strong wind or low clouds can suspend the ascent to the summit.
The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.
Do you need a car?
No. The train stops in the settlement and the lower station of the cable cars is a few minutes on foot. To go to Ždiar or to the Belianska Cave, there are buses, and a car gives more flexibility.

Morning
Cable car to Skalnaté pleso and to Lomnický štít
Take the gondola early to Skalnaté pleso and, if the weather is clear, the small cabin that goes up to the summit of Lomnický štít, with a timed ticket. Return to the lake and walk along the shore.

TANAP Museum and botanical garden
Descend to the settlement and visit the Tatra National Park Museum, with rooms on nature, history and ethnography. From May to mid-September, also visit the botanical garden of Tatra flora, at the northeast edge of Tatranská Lomnica.

By cable car from Tatranská Lomnica: a gondola goes up to Skalnaté pleso and, from there, a small cabin ascends to the summit. The cabin has limited capacity and tickets are usually timed.
