About Myra Canyon
The Kettle Valley Railway was built in the early 20th century to link the interior of British Columbia to the coast. In Myra Canyon, in the mountains above Kelowna, the tracks followed the canyon walls on 18 trestle bridges and 2 tunnels. The railway was abandoned in the 1970s and the tracks were removed.
The railbed became a trail, about 12 km between the two parking areas, flat and wide, good for biking and walking. The bridges stand tens of meters above the canyon floor, with views over the valley and Kelowna in the distance. In 2003 a wildfire destroyed most of the wooden bridges; they were rebuilt to match the originals.
The section is a National Historic Site and lies within Myra-Bellevue Provincial Park. Bike rentals are available near the parking lot in season.
