About Long Point Lighthouse
Long Point Lighthouse sits at Crow Head, on the northern tip of Twillingate Island, on a cliff about 100 meters above the sea. It was built of brick in 1876 and clad in reinforced concrete in 1929, after a tsunami hit the coast. It is the only lighthouse in Canada with that construction and remains in operation.
From the top of the cliff you can see Notre Dame Bay. In late spring, icebergs from Greenland drift close to the coast, and from June to August humpback and minke whales feed in the area. The former lightkeeper's house houses a centre with an exhibition about the town's and fishing's history.
Trails start at the lighthouse and follow the coast across rocks, fields and viewpoints, such as the Lower Little Harbour trail and the Cuckold's Point trail.
