About Brimstone Head
Brimstone Head is a dark rock rising about 90 meters beside the village of Fogo in the island’s northwest. A wooden stairway and a stone path lead to the top in about a 20-minute climb.
From the summit you can see the village, the harbor, the islands of Notre Dame Bay and the open sea. In late spring, icebergs often pass near the coast, and in summer it’s possible to see whales. The rock became known through a joke: the Flat Earth Society cited it as one of the four corners of the Earth, and a plaque on the path recalls the story.
In early August the village usually holds a folk music festival at the foot of the rock.
