Saskatoon sits in central Saskatchewan, where the South Saskatchewan River cuts the prairie into a wide, tree-lined valley. The several bridges across the river have given the city the nickname “City of Bridges,” and the valley has become a corridor of parks and trails that runs through the downtown.
About 5 km north of the city is Wanuskewin Heritage Park, a valley where the Plains peoples gathered, hunted bison, and camped for more than 6,000 years. The park, managed with Indigenous participation, has archaeological sites, trails, a reintroduced herd of bison, and an interpretive centre, and it is on Canada’s tentative list for World Heritage status.
Downtown, on the riverfront, the River Landing area brings together the Remai Modern art museum, public squares, and the Meewasin Valley promenade. The city has a university, summer festivals, and a restaurant scene connected to regional producers.
Surrounding the city, the landscape is fields of wheat and canola to the horizon, with wide skies and, on dark winter nights, a chance to see the aurora borealis outside the city.
This destination brings together 1 city: Saskatoon.
