A region to enjoy
at your own pace.

Prince George sits in the center of British Columbia where the Nechako River flows into the Fraser. It is the largest city in the northern part of the province and a crossroads of roads and railways, between Vancouver, Jasper, Prince Rupert and the Alaska Highway. The Lheidli T’enneh people have lived at the river confluence for thousands of years.

The city grew around an early 19th-century fur trading post and later developed with the railroad and the timber industry. Parks follow the riverbanks, such as Fort George, home to the Exploration Place museum, and Cottonwood Island, with trails among poplars and carved faces on tree trunks.

About 110 km to the east, Chun T'oh Whudujut, also called the Ancient Forest, protects an inland wet cedar forest with trees over a thousand years old, far from the sea. A boardwalk leads among giant trees and waterfalls.

Prince George is mainly a stop on northern journeys, by car or by train between Jasper and Prince Rupert.
