About Kathleen Lake
Kathleen Lake is the most easily accessed park site by car, about 25 km south of Haines Junction on the Haines Road. The cold water has a blue-green hue, and the Saint Elias Mountains rise immediately behind it.
On the shore are the park’s only car campground, a picnic area, a pebble beach and a dock for canoes and kayaks. Short trails follow the shoreline with viewpoints over the lake.
The King’s Throne trail climbs the slope to a glacial amphitheater shaped like a throne, with views of the lake and the mountains. It is a steep half-day ascent. Bears, sheep and marmots appear on the slopes.
