About Da Kų Cultural Centre
The Da Kų Cultural Centre, meaning “our home” in the Southern Tutchone language, is in central Haines Junction. It was built by the Champagne and Aishihik First Nations and also houses the Kluane National Park visitor centre in a wood-and-glass building with mountain views.
Exhibits tell the life of the region’s peoples, their relationship with the land, animals, hunting and fishing, and recent history including the park’s creation. There are traditional objects, panels with elders’ accounts and rooms for cultural events.
In the park section, rangers provide information about trails, bears, road conditions and backcountry camping reservations. In summer the centre runs interpretation programs and guided walks.
