About Sandy Hook Beach
Sandy Hook Beach is a narrow strip of sand and dunes that starts at Havre-Aubert and extends about 12 km between the gulf and the bay. On one side are the open-sea waves; on the other, the calmer bay waters, with Île d’Entrée in the background.
The walk to the tip is long and can only be done on foot, along the sand. Most visitors walk one or two kilometers, looking for shells, seals in the water and seabirds. The wind reshapes the dunes each season, and the vegetation that holds them in place is protected: access paths are marked.
In August the beach hosts a sandcastle and sand-sculpture competition, with teams from various parts of Quebec, which draws many visitors to the islands.
