About Belle-Anse Cliffs
The Belle-Anse cliffs are on the west coast of Cap-aux-Meules Island, in L’Étang-du-Nord. The red, soft sandstone is carved by sea and wind into cliffs, caves, arches and small stacks that change shape every winter.
A roughly 2 km trail follows the cliff edge across an open field, with viewpoints over the sea. From the top you can see the Gulf of Saint Lawrence, and in the late afternoon the sun sets over the water, bathing the rock in deep red.
Erosion is rapid: the edge can collapse, and paths are frequently moved inland. Follow fences and signs.
