About Tidal Bore Park
Bore Park sits on the bank of the Petitcodiac River in downtown Moncton. It is the most popular spot to watch the bore, the wave that moves up the river when the Bay of Fundy tide begins to come in.
Twice a day, the river, which at low tide looks like a wide reddish mudbed, suddenly receives a surge of water that advances against the current. The wave height varies with the moon and the season, from a few centimeters to more than a meter in the largest tides. After it passes, the river level rises several meters in a short time.
The city publishes the bore’s expected times, and panels in the park explain the phenomenon. At some times surfers ride the wave upriver.
