About Hopewell Rocks
Hopewell Rocks are about two dozen sandstone and conglomerate columns on the coast of Hopewell Cape, at the head of the Bay of Fundy. Tidal erosion sculpted the rocks into vase shapes, narrower at the base and crowned with trees at the top, which is why they are called flowerpot rocks.
At low tide, metal stairs lead down to the beach and you can walk along the seabed among the columns, arches and small caves. A few hours later, the tide rises more than 10 meters and the same rocks become surrounded by water, viewed from the high vantage points or by kayak on guided tours.
The provincial park has a visitor centre, trails and internal shuttle service to the stairs. Access to the beach depends on the tide table, and staff close the descent when the water returns. It usually opens from mid-May to mid-October; check current dates and the tidal schedule. The admission is valid for two consecutive days.
